Black Art in America Congratulates Khalif Thompson on Residency & Fellowship

BLACK ART IN AMERICA™ congratulates artist Khalif Thompson, the recent recipient of both an arts residency and prestigious fellowship.
Thompson, a New York-based artist versed in painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and paper-making, was one of four individuals selected from a pool of over 300 applicants awarded a Jerome Emerging Artist Residency this month with The Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Red Wing, Minnesota. In July, Thompson was also one of 92 New York artists selected from an applicant pool of 3,572 to receive the 2021 New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Artist Fellowship.
The Anderson Center’s Jerome Emerging Artist Residency serves emerging artists from Minnesota or New York City while welcoming them into a supportive and inspiring environment that empowers them to take risks, embrace challenges, and utilize unconventional approaches to problem-solving. Each artist receives a stipend of $625/week and a travel honorarium along with other resources for August residencies ranging from two weeks to one month.
The NYFA Artist Fellowship is a 36 year-old program supported by the New York State Council on the Arts. Under the fellowship, each artist receives an unrestricted cash grant of $7000.
On Saturday, August 14, the public can meet with Thompson and other residency recipients as part of the Afternoon Artmaking at the Anderson Center with August Artists-in-Residence and S.R. Kissler Press.
