Lecture: 12 Notable African-American Artists that have Served in the Military: WWI – Post Vietnam Era presented by African-American realist and impressionist painter, Ted Ellis. This lecture will feature works by legacy artists such as Romare Bearden & Jacob Lawrence, and will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 11:35 a.m. with a 10 minute Q & A at the end. Since America’s inception, African Americans have made contributions to the defense of the country, and have made a lasting impression on the World of Art. There is no doubt that times of war had and still has a major influence on Art. What may not be known to the masses is that some of our men and women in the armed forces are also artist.

In an effort to pay homage to that bravery, heroism and artistry, the M.I.A. : Military Inspired Art show will create an atmosphere where veterans and active duty men and women of all ethnicities can showcase their talents off the battlefield, along with modern and contemporary artists who may have been influenced by the military.
