We are sorry to inform you of the passing of Professor David C. Driskell on April 1st, 2020 at the age of 89.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

During these challenging times, it is difficult to mourn one individual, but we at the David C. Driskell are here to honor his legacy and continue his work of supporting and promoting African American artists. Once appropriate, we will ensure that our community has the chance to mourn and celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many of us.<\/p>\n

We will continue to update our community as his family releases more information to us.<\/p>\n

We recognize that closing\u00a0Romare Bearden: Artist as Activist & Visionary<\/em>\u00a0was disappointing for a lot of our community who did not get to visit. Because of this, we have uploaded more images to\u00a0the checklist<\/a>\u00a0and are exploring potential alternative options for sharing the exhibition with our community.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 is having a major impact on the arts, but hopefully the $2 Trillion CARES bill will help minimize that impact. Check out\u00a0driskellcenter@umd.edu<\/a><\/span>\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n

The Driskell Center’s team continues to follow University of Maryland polices, as such the office is currently closed and all staff are teleworking. As a result, responses to voicemails left at the office may be delayed. If you need to reach us, please e-mail driskellcenter@umd.edu.<\/p>\n
