Black Art in America Congratulates Lawrence Terry on Recent TV Acquisition

BLACK ART IN AMERICA™ (BAIA), the leading online portal and network focused on African-American Art in the nation, congratulates artist Lawrence Terry on the recent acquisition of two of his works by the popular television show, New Amsterdam.

A painter, sculptor, and multimedia artist, Terry explores the ceremonial aspects of art through urban ritual and symbolic imagery involving fire, line carving, metals and a variety of pigments that, according to the artist, “leave us at the edge of a doorway of possibilities… My intent is to awaken the intuitive nature of an audience to access the mystery of all that exists beneath the surface of life. My work springs from the region of instinct and interior, and brings to the viewer an opportunity to experience a bridge between the superficial and the mystical.”

Raised in a military family in the States and abroad, Terry became fascinated with fire as an artistic medium in the 1980s after moving to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts. Terry views fire as a natural component of the universal flow of energy surrounding us while highlighting its linkages through time to ancient tribal ceremonies. His primary influences include Isamu Noguchi, Japanese Zen minimalism, and aboriginal culture and art.

The New Amsterdam television series, which premieres its fourth season this fall on NBC, is a popular medical drama based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer.

BAIA proudly congratulates Lawrence Terry in recognition of his recent sale, his extraordinary talent, and his inspired art.

For more information on Terry and his art, click here.
