Five works of art. One theme. The FIVE Spot.

This week’s theme at the FIVE Spot is SISTAS WITH FLOWERS, as we present five works of art connected by their inclusion of floral themes and Black women.

Black women deserve their flowers when they are still here. And not just for Women’s History Month, but every month. For, like sistas, flowers brighten any space they grow in or occupy; help heal with their natural presence; provide energy and light; and improve the mood of those within their sphere. So it’s only fitting that we celebrate the women in our lives by making sure they have the opportunity to smell the roses.

Each of these five pieces was created by an emerging or established Black female artist. They include “Prete Pour La Nuit” by Masa Zodros; “Celebrate Woman Series 16” by Deborah Shedrick; “Sunflowers in Their Hair” by Karen Powell; “Sweet Amelia’s Garden” by Phyllis Stephens; and “Cleo” by the incomparable Dr. Samella Lewis.

We encourage you to take at least five minutes to view them, study them, and connect with them.
