The FIVE Spot
Connecting through Art
Five works of art. One theme. The FIVE Spot.
This week’s theme at the FIVE Spot is Artists & HBCUs as we present five works of art connected by the artist’s affiliation with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. These colorful works exemplify the remarkable talent our HBCUs have produced for well over a century. Just as these unique and necessary educational institutions have graduated a veritable who’s who of successful African Americans in all disciplines, they certainly have done so in the competitive field of visual art. The artwork of HBCU alumni appears in art galleries and museums across the globe.
Each piece in today’s collection features Black women in a range of poses and demeanors, be they reflective, conversational, majestic, poignant, or determined. The rendering artists include Delita Martin (Texas Southern University), Elizabeth Catlett (Howard University), Alfred Conteh (Hampton University), Samella Lewis (Hampton University), and Romare Bearden (Lincoln University).
We encourage you to take at least five minutes to view them, study them, and connect with them.
That way, you can see which ones hit the spot.
