Marcus Jansen: “Foreclosure”
I was introduced to MARCUS ANTONIUS JANSEN’S work in 2013, it immediately brought to mind the British artist, Francis Bacon. Bacon produced some of the most iconic images of wounded and traumatized humanity in post-war art. Jansen’s work is also post-war art expressed as the result of trauma and the socialization of urban living.

We are going to look at the world of Marcus Antonius Jansen — A DISTURBING URBAN STORYTELLER.
Jansen is noted as a pioneer of urban landscape paintings. He started painting in the early 1980′s during the emerging graffiti art movement in New York.
Jansen, a veteran, was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was sent to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. for treatment through art therapy.

After Jansen was discharged from the army he returned to art. He experimented by crossing street elements with abstract art techniques.

While showing largely in Europe, Jansen’s works evolved into a unique language of politically and socially charged imagery. Though his work makes viewers uncomfortable, it provokes thought and addresses a transforming society that has been moved by world events.
Jansen was commissioned by Warner Brothers (Hollywood) to create an interpretation of the 1939 story of “The Wizard of OZ”.
