The Black Art In America™ Fine Art Show Philadelphia, September 14-16th at The Historic Belmont Mansion and Underground Railroad Museum is a hybrid fine art fair featuring an impressively curated array of artworks presented by our invited galleries, dealers and artists. Artwork will be offered in a range of media from paintings, photography, limited edition prints, mixed media as well as works on paper and sculpture. All artwork will be for sale.

Black Art In America is pleased to present The Colored Girls Museum as our local non-profit beneficiary for the Fine Art Show. The Colored Girls Museum is a memoir museum, which honors the stories, experiences, and history of Colored Girls. This museum initiates the ordinary object—submitted by the colored girl herself, as representative of an aspect of her story and personal history, which she finds meaningful; her object embodies her experience and expression of being a Colored Girl. The Colored Girls Museum is headquartered in the historic neighborhood of Germantown in Philadelphia, an area renowned for its compliment of historic buildings and homes.

BAIA Talks: Inside scoop: What really happened with the Barnes Foundation 11:00-11:45 am. The Barnes Foundation has a collection worth over $70 billion, and is matched by an astounding multitude of myths and rumors about its origins and its founder Albert Barnes. Forget everything you think you know and come learn the real story as researched by Kimberly Camp, who led the foundation for 7 years, including its legal battle to move the collection to Philadelphia. Learn the truth behind Barnes commitment to African Americans, education and its relationship to Lincoln University, as backed by hard evidence in Barnes’ own archives. The real story is far more intriguing than everything you’ve heard!
BAIA Talks: 1 – 1:45 pm A Path Forward: Join Sammetria Goodson, former Philadelphia resident, Temple Law Alum, and Attorney practicing Art Law, as she summarizes the legal Issues surrounding the Barnes Foundation’s move to the Parkway. Come learn why the current legal landscape surrounding collection management and donor intent matters to Art collectors, institutions, and communities.
BAIA Talks: ‘ART COLLECTORS’, Chicago Style 3 – 3:50pm. Patric McCoy, Co-Founder of Diasporal Rhythms presents how that Chicago-based organization of art collectors has for 15 years worked to break down misconceptions about the act of art collecting and through inventive programs and activities redefined “art collector” such that more and more Chicagoans are seeing themselves as active agents in our visual arts culture. BAIA Talks: Creating Sanctuary with Art as a Transformative and Healing Experience 11:30 – 12:30 The Colored Girls Museum is a public ritual for the protection praise and grace of the ordinary Colored Girl. In this talk TCGM leadership founder Vashti DuBois, curator Michael Clemmons and associate director/performance curator Ian Friday offer a talk about the power of black art to create sanctuary. We must as communities and individuals create safe space now more than ever. The collection and curation of art and artifact significant to your experience is transformative and healing. Learn how black art is an essential aspect of such a practice.
BAIA Talks: Seat at the Table: Conversation with Board Members of Art Institutions 1 – 2 pm. A seat on the Board is nice but here is how we advance culture through exhibition, programming and the permanent collections of majority institutions as it relates to artists of color. Moderated by Danny Simmons, Jr., a abstract-expressionist painter. Danny is also the founder and Vice Chairman of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation and Rush Arts Gallery.

Daniel “Danny” Simmons, Jr. is an abstract-expressionist painter. Older brother of hip-hop impressario Russell Simmons and rapper Joseph Simmons (“Rev. Run” of Run DMC), he is the founder and Vice Chairman of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation and Rush Arts Gallery. In addition, Simmons converted part of his loft in Brooklyn into the Corridor Gallery. Along with his brother Russell, Simmons established Def Poetry Jam, which has enjoyed long- running success on HBO. In 2004, Simmons published Three Days As The Crow Flies, a fictional account of the 1980’s New York art scene. He has also written a book of artwork and poetry called I Dreamed My People Were Calling But I Couldn’t Find My Way.

Faron Manuel is the coordinator of the Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship and the Mellon Graduate Fellowship in Object-Centered Curatorial Research at the High Museum of Art. Prior to joining the High Museum, he was the Special Projects Curatorial Assistant to the director of the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum.
Faron also served as the Assistant Editor at Black Art In America, where he interviewed Prominent African American artists and reported extensively about contemporary art and culture. He holds a B.A. in History from Clark Atlanta University. Before obtaining his degree he worked as a docent and student Assistant in the CAU Art Museum, earned several awards and fellowships in the arts, and curated Négritude, an exhibition that explored a French literary and philosophical movement within the African diaspora.
Esther Silver-Parker is president and CEO of The SilverParker 
Group, a consultancy specializing in corporate responsibility and reputation, stakeholder relationship management and leadership development. Silver-Parker is an avid fine art collector, patron of the arts and supporter of Black Art In America and our mission to document, preserve and promote the contributions of the African-American arts community and communities of color. Mrs. Silver-Parker’s interest in art and collecting spurred out of her experiences while attending North Carolina Central and Columbia University.
