Little Haiti Cultural Complex

One of BAIA Foundation’s 2022 initiatives is instituting marketing assistance for African American Museums and Cultural Centers. 

Arthur E. Teele, Jr.’s vision came to light in 2006 with the birth of the Little Haiti Cultural Complex in Miami. The “key engine in Downtown Little Haiti and nearby neighborhoods,” according to their website, serves to uplift and honor Afro-Caribbean culture while encouraging local and touring visitors to be inspired in their own talents and expand their knowledge of the culture and arts. LHHC achieves their mission by providing the space for its visitors to have new positive experiences surrounding Afro-Caribbean culture, while honoring the past to create and sustain a commununal and prosperous future for next generations. 

The Little Haiti Cultural Complex welcomes over 100,000 visitors each year as they provide a variety of programs in their cultural hub, including cooking demos, interactive painting, happy hour in their Caribbean Marketplace, and of course, art exhibitions. In the Caribbean Marketplace, visitors can spend their Saturday vibing to Haitian music while shopping Haitian arts and crafts and food.

LHCC extends the use of the marketplace as well as the arts and crafts rooms, community rooms, courtyard, dance studios, theatres, or even the entire complex to visitors seeking venues and rental spaces. The complex offers space to display artwork, host special events, or meetings. Artists seeking a unique atmosphere to exercise their creative talents, will find a home in the complex’s arts and craft rooms consisting of the tools necessary to unleash their creative dreams. They rep Miami big time with their HEAT room, which is decked out in Miami Heat basketball team images and decoration. This room serves as their Learn and Play Center and does a phenomenal job of welcoming the younger generation with beanbags and large flat screen TVs. The goal is always to create an intergenerational space, and the Little Haiti Cultural Complex does an applause-worthy job at that!
