The Three-Piece: Dontanarious Kelly

Artists by the Numbers

Three works of art. Two minutes each. One artist.

The Three-Piece.

3… Three works. Straight outta the collections of Black Art In America comes three compelling pieces of art for this week, including Stroller, Gabby, and Artist-As I Walk.

2… Two minutes. We encourage you to take at least two minutes to view each of these works, study them, and connect with them. See which ones speak to you, challenge you, and-or inspire you.

1… One artist. The artist behind today’s works is Dontanarious Kelly, an Augusta, GA native and student at Columbus State University. Through his art, he explores what it means to be a minority, not only as a collective, but also on an individual basis. He takes stories and ideals from individuals and transforms these into art through an exploration of traditional oil painting combined with collage and occasional crude drawings. He finds that this creates a painting that exemplifies the soul of a being.
